Road signs of the Apocalypse

Your regular daily commute  is stressful enough as it is, but those flashing road side announcing unscheduled zombie rampages can just about push you over the edge.  And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to watch for velociraptors scampering across the asphalt—such a headache.

All over the United States hackers have been having their fun, and making the drive home a little less mundane.

If you were cruising in Austin, Texas the other day you may have seen the following roadside signage:

“Caution! Zombie! Ahead!!”, “Run For Cold Climates”, “The End Is Near” and “Nazi Zombies! Run!”

And those of you in Collinsville, Ill., east of St. Louis may have seen this beauty:

A post at the website I-Hacked.com explains how easily reckless pranksters can hack the signs, but in case the little devil on your shoulder is urging you to try it right now (DRIVEN never endorses the advice offered by the little devil on your shoulder), this is not the kind of hacking that can be done remotely from your home computer. You actually have to go out and find a sign to fiddle with.

Remember sign hacking is 100 per cent funny, and totally illegal. The Illinois  Department of Transportation is worried that pranks will distract drivers from real hazards and endanger road crews.
