Until June 21st , Montreal—Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica is currently hosting And then there was light, a stunning “multimedia show on the cutting edge of Canadian sound and light technology.”
One part of the show, which highlights the Basilica’s history and some of its amazing works of art, sees the nave transformed into a giant ship, complete with sails that appear to swell.
Still and moving images, lights and illustrations arranged by director/designer Denis Lepine are projected onto huge white canvass screens (actually meant for sailing the high seas), creating a “historical and cultural portrait” of the building and institution.

Onscreen historical re-enactments, complete with period settings and elaborate costumes, make for a vivid encounter, rounded out by the inspiring music of Gilles Gregoire.

The presentation uses some of today’s most advanced multimedia technologies, and the work of over 150 artists and skilled technicians to create the stunning site specific spectacle.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults, and the 35 minute shows start at 6:30 PM Tuesday-Thursday, 6:30 and 8:30 PM Friday, and 7:00 and 8:30 PM Saturday.
