Toronto–I remember being one of the first kids at my high school rockin’ Pumas. While others wore their Roms or Olympias (heaven forbid you be caught in low-rent Northstars) I had my white and orange Pumas with the suction cup bottoms. Sweet.
Puma Canada unveiled their new fall line at a raucous event at Toronto’s Spoke Club a short time ago, with a perfect mix of rock’n’roll, sports and fashion. Puma’s heavy involvement in soccer was highlighted by their new line of Alexander McQueen-designed wear with an emphasis of the upcoming 2010 African-hosted World Cup. The company is also heavily committed to motorsports with racing gear fashions featuring both Ducati and Ferrari.
Golf pros mingled with rock stars (we spotted Our Lady Peace’s Jeremy Taggart chatting with fellow drummer Josh Trager from The Sam Roberts Band and Montreal rocker Lindsay Robins) as the models playfully strutted down the runway to the sounds of Eagles of Death Metal and Talking Heads.
Famed Japanese designer Yasuhiro Mihara’s “Animagical” line of sneakers was unveiled as well as a new Manga-inspired line of kicks.
Lucky for The Hour’s George Stroumboulopoulos there were no referees in sight, as he certainly would have been shown the yellow card and booked for wearing his black Adidas.
