Ending Sept. 26, Ottawa – This weekend is your last chance to take in the SAW Gallery’s special exhibition “Works of Art Made by Animals.” If the title of the exhibit is not sufficiently self-explanatory, this is a show consisting of dozens of works of art created by both pets and zoo animals. It may sound bizarre, but they are dead serious about it.
In the show’s programme (available as a downloadable pdf on the gallery’s web site), curator Stefan St-Laurent asks, “With growing evidence of animals’ complex cognitive skills and emotional depth, will we ever see radical changes in the ways humans treat animals? Can animals fully realize their creative potential in captivity or through training?”
NB: If you do decide to go, keep in mind that the show has been running since Aug. 1, so chance are, more than one person has already made a crack about their dog doing “a better job than that.”
